Since we first opened our doors in 2003 Café René has become a hub of activity in the centre of the city of Gloucester. We are open serving food 365 days a year and hold two weekly live music shows and multiple festivals and events throughout the year showcasing the best of Gloucester.
Set in an historic building which used to house Washbourns, a company founded in 1767 that made wines, spirits and soft drinks. The well(s) were used in the production of said items and the underground cellar bar was then used as a bottling cellar. Over the years it has had many different names including the Greyfriars Inn- which is fondly remembered by many Gloucester watering hole patrons - and has always in some way been an important feature in Gloucester’s nightlife. For at least the last 15 years Café René has grown from strength to strength and is now one of the most popular independent pub and restaurants in the city.
